Mt. Rainier, WA, 5-day Workshop August 24th - 28th 2018
Mount Rainier National Park is one of my absolute favorite places. In this small 10-person workshop you’ll explore and photograph one of our oldest and most beautiful national parks while learning to expand your creative vision and better use your camera equipment. Mount Rainier offers wildflower adorned ridges, glaciers, streams, waterfalls, old growth forest, marmots, mountain goats and a plethora of exciting photographic subjects all surrounding this 14,411 foot Cascade volcano. We will explore it all.
Growing up here in the Pacific Northwest, Mount Rainier has always loomed large in my imagination. I’ve hiked, camped, explored, and photographed here for many years and even climbed to it’s summit twice. I can’t think of a place I’d rather share with a passionate group of photographers in a workshop setting.
Mount Rainier Locations
Our classroom will be at a cabin in Ashford Washington near the National Park entrance. There we’ll hone our photography knowledge and review, discuss and critique images. Ashford is just over two hours from Seattle’s airport and there are several choices for accommodation close to the classroom.
Outside of class time time, we’ll take a 12 passenger Mercedes Sprinter van to dawn, sunset and night shoots at locations including Paradise Park, Sunrise Lodge, the Grove of the Patriarchs, the White River, Reflection Lakes, and Silver Falls among others. I’ll demonstrate basic photography principles alongside advanced techniques like panoramic mergers, focus-blending, star-photography, light-painting, and time-lapse photography. We’ll also make time for some hiking and exploration. Of course you are always free to follow your own creative vision if you find yourself drawn in a different direction from the rest of the group.
