Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) is a celebration of lost family members. Families create elaborate marigold and candle covered shrines (ofrendas) with photos of lost ancestors to celebrate and remember them by. People paint their faces, wear elaborate costumes, play music, dance, send paper lanterns into the sky, and reverently visit family graves. It is a wholesome, moving and amazingly beautiful spectacle and Michoacan is an epicenter of the celebration.
This is a very special workshop. Dia de Muertos in Michoacan is one of my favorite world celebrations and it’s a beautiful spectacle to photograph. My family has a rich history of connection with this part of Mexico and I’ve been visiting and making friends there for decades. This year I will bring a small, select group of no more than 8 photographers along to experience it with me in this all inclusive workshop. We’ll pick you up from the plane and show you the best this region has to offer for 5 full days with everything included except alcohol.
Food: All meals during the course of the workshop are included. Come with an appetite to eat some of the freshest, best food you’ve ever enjoyed. Please advise us in advance of any dietary restrictions. (Alcoholic beverages will be available, but are not included.)
