When I need to get away from it all to be inspired and to recharge my batteries I book a trip to Kauai. The oldest of Hawaii’s major inhabited volcanic islands, Kauai has had longer for nature to shape its beaches and jagged ridge lines. The island’s residents have resisted large scale tourist development, particularly on the lush, rugged north shore. The result is a breathtakingly beautiful place you have to visit to appreciate. In this 10-person workshop co-led with my good friend David Archer, we’ll spend time exploring this epic location and honing your photographic skills and creative vision through classroom training, shooting, editing and critiques. As an added bonus, we’ll take a doors-off helicopter tour of the island.
For photographers, Kauai is ideal. It has it all: a magnificent, rugged coastline with spectacular sandy beaches, jungle-covered mountain backdrops, waterfalls, lighthouses, red-rock canyons, surfing, kayaking and kitesurfing. You’ll also find incredible trails for hiking and quaint towns, each with their own island flavor. The island is so small you can drive from one end to the other in an afternoon, which means you can photograph both sunrise and sunset easily on this island.
