There’s nothing like a photo adventure on Oregon’s wild and scenic coast. Deep Pacific Northwest rainforests reach right down to rock-strewn secluded beaches and charming fishing towns. There is truly something here for every photographic style and taste. In this workshop, we’ll spend time both in the classroom and in the field, honing your photographic skills and creative vision through training, shooting, editing and daily photo critiques. I’ll be joined by my friend, and workshop coordinator, Rick LePage, who will be helping me teach and lead participants during the workshop.

Our home base will be in Newport, a classic harbor town right in the heart of Oregon’s spectacular coastline. From Newport’s vibrant fishing docks and culture to dramatic landscape locations like Cape Perpetua, this part of the Pacific Northwest’s coast is teeming with a diverse array of visual stories to tell. This workshop’s focus will be on developing your skills to better tell those stories.

Locations
During this four-day adventure, we’ll have sunset and dawn shoots close to Newport at sites like Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Cape Perpetua, Thor’s Well, Heceta Head, Yaquina Bay Bridge and a variety of other landscape and port town locations. Along the way we’ll cover advanced techniques like panoramic mergers, long-exposure photography, time-lapse and more.

Tentative course schedule
The schedule below is a sample of what we’ll do during our week together. Once we’re in the area, we’ll be flexible, depending upon the weather, the group’s interest and availability of some of our locations. In addition to field-based instruction, we’ll have scheduled classroom time during the week for post-processing demos and Q&A. We’ll also do our best each day to have student image reviews/critiques of images taken the day before.
