Workshop Description
There’s nothing like a photo adventure on Oregon’s wild and scenic coast—you’ll find something for every photographic style and taste. In this 4-day workshop, we’ll spend time in the classroom and in the field, honing your photographic skills and creative vision through training, shooting, editing and photo critiques.
Our home base will be in Cannon Beach, a fun town on the northern part of Oregon’s coastline. With spectacular coastal landscapes, amazing rock formations, abundant bird life, forest streams and great food and culture, this part of Oregon is teeming with a diverse array of visual stories to tell. Our focus will be on developing your skills to better tell those stories.
For this small, 10-person workshop, I’ll be joined with my friend (and workshop coordinator) Rick LePage, who will be helping me teach and lead participants during the workshop. Rick is a great photographer and instructor in his own right, with a passion for teaching all aspects of photography.
Locations
Cannon Beach is within easy striking distance of Astoria and Fort Clatsop to the north, Manzanita and Neahkahnie Mountain to the south, Saddle Mountain to the west and many stunning locations in between. We’ll explore many aspects of the coastline each day, focusing on sunrises and sunsets, with ample classroom time during the daylight hours to talk about post-processing and other topics of interest to the group.
We’ll have sunset and dawn shoots close to Cannon Beach at sites like Haystack Rock, Indian Beach, Twin Rocks and the Peter Iredale shipwreck, and we’ll spend some blue hour time shooting the crescent moon setting over the ocean. There will also be the option of shooting the Milky Way on at least one night during the workshop, weather permitting, of course.
In the field, we’ll work with you on advanced techniques like panoramic mergers, time-lapse creation, long-exposure photography, and more. Participants are always welcome to head off and photograph something that piques their interest as well.
Planned Course Schedule
Each day we will have student image reviews/critiques of images taken the day before. In addition to field-based instruction, we’ll have scheduled classroom time during the week for post-processing demos, instruction and Q&A. There will also be midday breaks for rest, lunch or small-group interaction.

Payment Terms
The Oregon Coast workshop is priced at $2,195, which includes four days of field and classroom instruction. Participants who reserved their position with a deposit instead of the full fee will receive an invoice for the balance remaining no later than 90 days prior to the workshop. The balance must be paid in full 60 days prior to the workshop to hold your place.
All workshop payments are fully refundable less a 10% fee up to 60 days prior to the first day of the workshop. If you cancel anywhere from 59 to 30 days prior to the workshop, we will make every effort to find a replacement. If we can fill your spot, 90% of your workshop fee will be refunded; if we cannot find a replacement, we will refund 50% of your workshop fee. Any cancellation within 30 days is non-refundable.
