This workshop has been completed.

Charleston is the perfect place for a photo adventure. One of the most fun cities in the country, it has a rich, gourmet food scene, historic harbor and dramatic architecture. And, outside the city center, you’ll find lush islands and swamps filled with amazing wildlife.

In this small workshop, we’ll split time between exploring the city and touring the natural habitats on its outskirts. We’ll hone our street photography skills and spend sunset and blue hour in the city, and will work on wildlife and landscape photography in such beautiful locations as the Birds of Prey Center, Francis Beidler Forest, and Magnolia Swamp. And, because it is Charleston, we’ll dine in some of our favorite restaurants, enjoying good company and great food.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll have plenty of time to help you in your photographic journey. I’ll teach advanced techniques like panoramic mergers, focus blending, and time-lapse, and we’ll have discussions and demonstrations designed to help you capture birds in flight like a pro. And, if you find yourself drawn in a different direction from the rest of the group, you are always free to follow your own creative vision.

I’ll be joined on this workshop by my good friends David Archer and Rick LePage. David is a skilled photographer and musician who lives in Charleston, and he will be our guide to some of his favorite places in the area. Rick is my workshop assistant, and a great teacher and photographer in his own right. Their presence will give us a 4:1 student-teacher ratio, ensuring that you’ll have plenty of opportunity to get the help and direction that you need.
